Giant Oak Wins US Gr1 Donn Handicap

In the US, former Coolmore shuttler Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat-Mariah's Storm, by Rahy) added a Gr1 triumph when 5YO entire Giant Oak (Giant's Causeway-Crafty Oak, by Crafty Prospector) scored a 2-lengths victory in the US$500,000 Gr1 Donn Handicap (9 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Gulfstream Park in Miami in Florida. Giant Oak (ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan for trainer Chris Block) defeated 4YO entires Morning Line (Tiznow-Indian Snow, by A.P.Indy) & Rule (Roman Ruler-Rockcide, by Personal Flag). Illinois-bred Giant Oak took his record to 5 wins (also including 2010's Gr1 Clark Handicap over 9 furlongs at Churchill Downs & 2009's Listed Arlington Classic Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Arlington Park) & 8 placings (including 2010's Gr2 Hawthorne Gold Cup over 10 furlongs at Hawthorne, Gr3 Washington Park Handicap over 9.5 furlongs at Arlington Park, Gr3 Ben Ali Stakes over 9 furlongs at Keeneland & Gr3 Mineshaft Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Fair Grounds, plus 2009's Gr2 Indiana Derby over 8.5 furlongs at Hoosier Park, Gr2 Illinois Derby over 9 furlongs at Hawthorne & Listed Honor Glide Stakes over 9 furlongs at Arlington Park, as well as  2008's Gr2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Churchill Downs) from 24 starts for US$1,256,677 earnings.
