NZB Select Yearlings Day-3: NZ$250k Excellent Art Colt

Monday, 7th February 2011

In the NZ auction ring, Coolmore Stud's Tom Magnier & Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland paid top price of NZ$250,000 for a colt from the 1st-crop of Gr1-winning Coolmore shuttler & former champion 3YO miler Excellent Art (the 4th foal out of unraced 10-year-old Sadler's Wells mare Magical Moment) during the closing session at the 3-day NZ Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale (following the initial 2-day Premier Yearling Sale & now followed by the 2-day Festival Yearling Sale) at Karaka in Auckland. The colt (consigned by Pencarrow Stud) is a half-brother to recent NZ Gr1 winner Fears Nothing & Magnier enthused: "He's a fantastic yearling that has all the makings of a super racehorse & we are delighted to have bought him. . . . . The market seems to love Excellent Art. He's getting very good looking yearlings & it bodes well for his future as a sire." And Coolmore advisor Demi O'Byrne added: "He is an outstanding colt that has everything. He's probably the best looking yearling I've seen in Australasia so far this year." The colt's dam Magical Moment is a full-sister to French Gr3-winner Short Pause, as well as a 3/4-sister to stakes-winner Interim (dam of US Gr1-winner & Gr1-placed Midships & UK stakes-winner Principal Role) plus a half-sister to French stakes-winner Cheyenne Dream (dam of French stakes-winner Indian Choice), French winner Imbabala (dam of French Gr1-winner Zambezi Sun & French Gr2-winner Kalabar), French winner Krisia (dam of French Gr1-winner & UK Gr1-winner Continent) & unraced Interpose (dam of US stakes-winner & Gr1-placed Rinterval).
