NZB Select Yearlings: Final Median Down 2.5%

Monday, 7th February 2011

Overall at the conclusion of the 3-day Select Section of the NZB Yearling Sale series, 418 lots had sold for NZ$19,107,000 (down 16.7% from last year's NZ$22,927,500 but still up 12.1% on 2009's NZ$17,039,000). Similarly the NZ$45,711 average was down 25.2% (last year NZ$52,346) but still up 22.3% on 2009 (when it was NZ$37,366). In a significant "show of strength" from the middle market, the final median of NZ$39,000 was down just 2.5% (last year NZ$40,000) but up 30% on 2009 (when it was NZ$30,000). The final clearance rate was 73%. NZB co-managing director Petrea Vela commented: "Given the strength of last year's Select Sale, to be within striking distance of those figures is a good result. One of the most pleasing aspects has been the median holding up well against last year, reflecting the solid demand that was still very evident on quality horses."
