Sydney's New Merged Club Begins Today

Sydney's new race club the Australian Turf Club (formed from the merger of the Australian Jockey Club & Sydney Turf Club) officially commences operating today & NSW Gaming And Racing Minister Kevin Greene declared its creation "is one of the most significant developments in the history of NSW racing" & noted: "Finally NSW has a strong & united metropolitan club to take the industry forward, to capitalise on opportunities for growth & development. We have completed an essential step to secure the ongoing viability of NSW racing." ATC chairman John Cornish added: "With a united vision we will see both Royal Randwick & Rosehill Gardens in a relationship which will be great for the industry. The physical benefits of merger will become apparent soon, when we commence the $150 million redevelopment of Royal Randwick, as well as $24 million in improvements to Rosehill Gardens."
