Zazu Wins US Gr1 Las Virgenes Stakes

Monday, 7th February 2011

US Horse-Of-The-Year Zenyatta's owners Jerry & Ann Moss's latest female star Zazu (Tapit-Rhumb Line, by Mr Greeley) came from the tail of the field to score a 1.25-lengths victory in the US$250,000 Gr1 Las Virgenes Stakes (8 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at Santa Anita Park in California. Zazu (ridden by Joel Rosario for trainer John Sadler) defeated previously unbeaten favourite Turbulent Descent (Congrats-Roger's Sue, by Forestry) & Plum Pretty (Medaglia d'Oro-Liszy, by A.P.Indy). Zazu (a US$100,00 weanling at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November Sale & later a US$285,000 yearling at the 2009 Keeneland September Sale) took her record to 2 wins & 3 runners-up (in last month's Gr2 Santa Ynez Stakes over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita & 2010's Listed Moccasin Stakes over 7 furlongs at Hollywood Park) from 6 starts for US$240,985 earnings.
