1st Foal By Gr1-Winning Sire Montmartre

Tuesday, 8th February 2011

Also in France, the 1st foal by Gr1-winning 6YO stallion Montmartre (Montjeu-Artistique, by Linamix) is a colt from Maia Dancer (an unraced daughter of Danehill Dancer & 8-time-winner Maia Eria) finally born "2 years after he entered stud at Haras National du Pin" reported racingpost.com. The Aga Khan's Montmartre (unraced as a 2YO) led all-the-way to blitz his rivals by 4-lengths in France's Gr1 Grand Prix De Paris (2400m) at Longchamp in February 2009, following a similarly impressive victory at his previous start in the Gr3 Prix Du Lys (2400m) at Longchamp; however recurrence of an injury (which prevented him being trained for 2008's Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe for which he was an early favourite) led to his immediate retirement & sale to the French National Stud to stand at Haras National du Pin in Normandy with an overall record of 3 wins & a runner-up (on debut) from his only 5 starts & an International Classification rating of 125 (alongside international stars Henrythenavigator, Goldikova, Conduit, Big Brown, Youmzain & Zenyatta). Unfortunately, Montmartre "though returning high fertility counts, suffered from a lack of libido in his 1st season at stud & was withdrawn from the breeding shed"; however he returned to stud last year & "is reported to have successfully covered around 100 mares".
