Irish Sire Bob Back Euthanased Aged 30
In Ireland, multiple Gr1-winning US-bred stallion Bob Back (Roberto-Toter Back, by Carry Back) was euthanased "due to the infirmities of old age" just after officially turning 30, reported racingpost.com. Bob Back (whose US Gr2-winning dam Toter Back was from the immediate family of 1965 US Horse-Of-The-Year Roman Brother) won both Italy's Gr1 Premio Presidente della Repubblica & the UK Gr1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes, before retiring to Ireland's Baroda Stud in 1988; when the executors of the late Sean Doyle subsequently decided to sell Baroda, the sire "followed John O'Connor when he went to manage Ballylinch Stud in County Kilkenny" & later moved again to Burgage Stud in 2001. He "enjoyed high fertility & covered restricted books of around 140-150 mares until his retirement in 2007". His star progeny include Classic winner Bob's Return (who landed the UK St Leger, Great Voltigeur Stakes & Lingfield Derby Trial "in a glittering 3YO season in 1993") & multiple stakes-winner Big Bad Bob (who "has been a revelation at stud, earning him a move to the Irish National Stud this year").
