Aust-Bred Better Be The One Aims At Dubai Trip

Friday, 11th February 2011

In Singapore, Australian trainer Michael Freedman confirmed Australian-bred 4YO gelding & former Melbourne galloper Better Be The One (More Than Ready-Common Smytzer, by Snippets) may join Singapore's 2 other Australian-bred stars Rocket Man & Better Than Ever on a trip to Dubai. Rocket Man will contest the US$2 million Gr1 Dubai Golden Shaheen (1200m on all-weather) at Meydan on Dubai World Cup night on March 26, while Better Than Ever will contest the US$5 million Gr1 Dubai Duty Free (1800m on turf). Better Be The One (a $485,000 yearling consigned by Makybe at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney who originally raced in Australia as Common Interest) scored in a Kranji Stakes A (1200m) last weekend, clocking 1min 9.5 sec & Freedman noted: "If we get an invite, then we will certainly look at running in the US$1 million Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) on Dubai World Cup night. We had him nominated for Dubai World Cup night & he pulled-up well from his win the other day. . . . . The Al Quoz Sprint is run on turf over the straight 1000m. He had good straight track form back in Melbourne before coming here & on one occasion he did beat Starspangledbanner. The horse is 3/4-owned back in Australia, with the other quarter owned here in Singapore & everyone is keen to have a crack at Dubai if we get an invite."
