Conquering Wins Thomas Lyons Stakes

Greta West sire Dangerous (Danehill-Antwerp, by Sir Tristram) added a black-type success when 8YO gelding Conquering (Dangerous-Currently, by Acidity) scored a 0.75-length victory in yesterday's $90,000 weight-for-age Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes (1400m) at Hobart to take this race for the 2nd time (having also won in 2009, as well as finishing runner-up last year). Conquering (ridden by Brendon McCoull for trainer Charlie Goggin) defeated 4YO gelding Rocky Times (Ladoni-Fracas, by Ali-Royal) & evergreen 10-year-old gelding Royal Ida (Star Pyramul-Star Of Ida, by Paint The Stars) who won this race last year. Conquering took his overall record to 23 wins (also including 2009's Listed Tattersalls George Adams Plate over 1600m at Launceston, Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes over 1400m at Hobart & Listed Tote.com.au Stakes over 1200m at Launceston, plus 2008's Listed D'Urban Stakes over 1700m at Caulfield & Listed Kevin Sharkie Tasmanian Stakes over 1600m at Mowbray) & 22 placings (including last month's Listed Premium Stakes over 1200m at Launceston, plus 2010's Listed Kevin Sharkie Tasmanian Stakes over 1600m) at Hobart, Listed Seymour Cup over 1600m at Seymour & Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes over 1400m) at Hobart, as well as 2008's Gr2 Jayco Crystal Mile over 1600m at Moonee Valley, in addition to 2006's Listed Tattersall's George Adams Plate over 1600m at Mowbray & Listed Tasmanian Guineas over 1600m at Mowbray) from 79 starts for $909,795 earnings.
