Lord Pyrus Wins Carlyon Cup

Former NZ Westbury Stud shuttler Pyrus (Mr Prospector-Most Precious, by Nureyev) added a group success when favoured 5YO gelding Lord Pyrus (Pyrus-Eminent Walk, by Galus) scored a front-running 2.25-lengths victory in the $125,000 Gr3 Carlyon Cup (1600m) for 4YOs & up at Caulfield. Lord Pyrus (ridden by Craig Williams for trainer Judy Mawer) defeated 4YO gelding Voile Rouge (Encosta De Lago-La Bella Dama, by Desert Sun) & 7YO gelding Its Prince (Principality-Reign Danzig, by Roi Danzig). Lord Pyrus (a NZ$6,000 weanling consigned by Pencarrow Stud at the 2006 NZ Bloodstock New Zealand National Sale & subsequently a NZ$45,000 2YO at the 2007 NZ Bloodstock Horses-In-Training Sale) took his record to 5 wins & 8 placings from 16 starts for $170,728 earnings.
