Red Ruler Wins NZ Gr1 Darci Brahma International

Australian Gr1-winning former Cambridge Stud dual-hemisphere home-bred sire & now Victorian-based Mornmoot Stud stallion Viking Ruler (Danehill-Tristalove, by Sir Tristram) added a NZ Gr1 triumph when 5YO gelding Red Ruler (Viking Ruler-Ransom Bay, by Red Ransom) scored a 0.75-length victory in the NZ$200,000 Gr1 Darci Brahma International Stakes (2000m) at Te Rapa. Red Ruler (ridden by Mark Du Plessis for trainer John Sargent) defeated favoured fellow 6YO gelding Booming (Don Eduardo-Beautiful Sea, by Grosvenor) & 5YO mare Passchendaele (Montjeu-Classic Babe, by Classic Fame). Red Ruler (a NZ$60,000 yearling at the 2006 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) took his record to 9 wins (also including 2010's Gr2 Wellington Cup over 3200m at Trentham, Gr2 City Of Auckland Cup over 2400m at Ellerslie & Gr3 Trentham Stakes over 2100m, plus 2008's Gr2 Lexus Championship Stakes over 2100m at Ellerslie) & 9 placings (including last month's Gr2 City Of Auckland Cup over 2400m at Ellerslie, plus 2010's Gr1 Zabeel Classic over 2000m at Ellerslie & Gr2 Awapuni Gold Cup over 2000m at Awapuni, as well as 2008's Gr1 AJC Australian Derby over 2400m at Randwick, Gr1 Kelt Capital Stakes over 2040m at Hastings & Gr2 Sandown Classic over 2400m) from 43 starts for NZ$1,528,368 earnings.
