Bird Checks Possible Harvey Expansion In Singapore

Friday, 18th February 2011

In Singapore, Claire Bird (former strapper for superstar racemare Sunline & now racing manager for Australian retail mogul & Magic Millions principal Gerry Harvey) is currently "on a fact-finding mission as the Harvey racing empire looks to expand its operation outside of Australia". Bird (who manages on average 150 horses that Harvey has in work at any time) noted: "Gerry owns about 1,000 horses all up. He's got an interest in 5 stud farms. We breed 250-300 yearlings every year & sell between two-thirds & three-quarters & keep the rest. We've got 55 trainers." Bird added: "I have come over (to Singapore) & have had a look to get an idea of what the ideal horse might be (to race here). . . . . We do have a big pool of horses that we are looking at sending over. If we can find the right ones, then I'm sure we will be expanding our interests up here."
