US Star Lookin At Lucky Shuttle To Coolmore Aust
Coolmore Stud's policy of "supplying Australian breeders with the best stallions from both major northern hemisphere breeding arenas will continue this year, with freshman sires Lookin At Lucky & Starspangledbanner having the credentials to ensure huge interest from local breeders," noted columnist John Holloway in The Sydney Morning Herald. Multiple Gr1-winning Australian-bred sprinter Starspangledbanner (Choisir-Gold Anthem, by Made Of Gold) is serving his 1st season at Coolmore in Ireland for €15,000 (A$20,000); Coolmore "originally pencilled in 2010 to kick start Starspangledbanner's stud career in Australia, but changed its mind to keep him racing in England". And last year's US Eclipse Award-winning Champion 3YO Male Lookin At Lucky (Smart Strike-Private Feeling, by Belong to Me) who was also Champion 2YO Male in 2009 was purchased by Coolmore last November & retired immediately boasting 5 Gr1 wins & US$3,307,278 earnings; he was the 1st horse in 32 years to be named both 2YO & 3YO champion of his division. Lookin At Lucky "is the 1st son of Smart Strike to stand in the southern hemisphere"; he is currently standing his 1st season at Ashford Stud in Kentucky for US$35,000 (where his broodmare line-up includes 6 Gr1-winners, plus the dams of Smarty Jones, Point Given, Switch & Henrythenavigator). In Australia, Gooree Stud's Eduardo Cojuangco "has already contacted Coolmore with 5 definite bookings to Looking At Lucky & Gooree manager Andrew Baddock said this number could easily double after they inspect the stallion on his arrival in the Hunter Valley in August".
