Waikato Stud sire No Excuse Needed (Machiavellian-Nawaiet, by Zilzal) added a NZ black-type success (& 10th individual stakes-winner world-wide) when his colt Champagne Needed (No Excuse Needed-Bellesinga, by Danasinga) scored a 2.5-lengths victory in the NZ$45,000 Listed Southland Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs at Ascot Park in Invercargill. Champagne Needed (ridden by Ryan Bishop for trainer Shane Kennedy) defeated the filly Miss Maximuss (Castledale-Missprynt, by Epidaurus) & gelding Harry Trimbole (Danske-Greta's Way, by Wallenda). Champagne Needed (a NZ$27,000 yearling at the 2009 NZ Bloodstock Summer Sale) now has 2 wins & 1 placing from 6 starts for NZ$35,750 earnings.
