US $40m Sire Smarty Jones Shuttle To Uruguay
In South America, US 2004 Champion 3YO male & dual classic-winning sire Smarty Jones (Elusive Quality-I'll Get Along, by Smile) "will shuttle to Uruguay for the 2011 Southern Hemisphere season," reported bloodhorse.com. The Gr1 Kentucky Derby winner stood 6 seasons at Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky (initially for US$100,000 but down to just US$10,000 last year) after his late owner Roy Chapman originally sold breeding rights in a US$40 million deal; however Smarty Jones was relocated to Ghost Ridge Farms in Pennsylvania for the 2011 US breeding season. He has sired 106 winners (4 graded or group winners) from 160 starters from his initial 3 crops.
