Michael Cahill Contract To Ride In Mauritius

Tuesday, 22nd February 2011

Queensland-based jockey Michael Cahill has "taken up a contract to ride in Mauritius this season," reported The Courier-Mail. Cahill confirmed: "I have had offers to go in the past & I had put it on the back-burner, but I decided I would go this time." Cahill, 45 (who has previously ridden in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau & Singapore) was approached by leading Mauritius trainer Hugues Maigrot after his brother Matthew Cahill had ridden successfully for him. Michael Cahill added: "I have always liked to travel & experience different cultures & racing has allowed me to do that. . . . . I have always been a big fan of riding just twice a week. I find the constant riding (in Australia) a bit grinding & the weight scale (overseas) does give me some relief. . . . . I get a bit tired of the dieting & the wasting. I have found that a bit harder as the years have gone on."
