US Sires Barbican & Digamist Euthanased

Also in Pennsylvania, stallions Barbican & Digamist were both euthanased at Xanthus Farms, reported bloodhorse.com.

  • 8YO Barbican (A.P.Indy-Colour Chart (by Mr Prospector) "suffered from a respiratory infection" entered stud at Xanthus in 2009 & covered 30 mares in 2010. Barbican (whose dam Colour Chart was a French Gr2-winner) was a half-brother to 4 stakes-winners (including 2001 champion & Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Tempera). On the track, Barbican (who initially raced for his breeder Sheikh Mohammed's Darley, before being acquired by Tea Party Stable) Barbican won or placed in 7 of 16 races.
  • 26-year-old Digamist (Blushing Groom-Disconiz, by Northern Dancer) was euthanased "because of complications from old age". Digamist sold for US$625,000 at the 1986 Keeneland July yearling sale to Khalid Abdullah & subsequently won the Irish Gr1 Phoenix Stakes as a 2YO; he retired with 3 wins from 7 starts. Digamist sired 19 stakes horses (including Panamanian champion Romanono & Austrian high-weight Kalaf).
