Stud Deal "Close" For Captain Sonador
Trainer Roger Milne revealed owner Greg Wagner is "close" to finalising a stud deal for Gr1 Epsom Handicap winner Captain Sonador (Shamardal-Pushing Daisies, by Kenny's Best Pal) & a Queensland stud is now the "front-runner" to secure a 50% stake in the 4YO for the next breeding season, reported racingandsports.com.au. Captain Sonador will barrier trial at Doomben next week & then compete in the Gold Coast Stakes (1200m) on March 19 ahead of 2 runs in Sydney (in the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill & Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick) & then 2 final starts in Brisbane (in the Gr1 Doomben 10,000 in May & Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm in June). Milne confirmed yesterday: "The stud people are coming to have a look over him today & if the deal goes through, he'll have his final run in the Stradbroke. I'd love to take him back to Melbourne for the Spring, but he's not going there unless the stud deal falls over for some reason." Captain Sonador (a $30,000 yearling consigned by Mill Park Stud at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) currently boasts 6 wins (including January's Listed Goldmarket Handicap over 1300m at the Gold Coast, plus 2010's Gr1 Epsom Handicap over 1600m at Randwick) & 8 placings (including last start's Magic Millions Cup over 1400m at the Gold Coast on January 15, plus 2010's Gr1 Randwick Guineas over 1600m at Randwick, Gr2 Hobartville Stakes over 1400m at Rosehill & Gr3 Bill Ritchie Handicap over 1400m at Randwick, as well as 2009's Magic Millions Trophy over 1000m at Rockhampton) from 27 starts for $729,500 earnings.
