US Gr1-Winning Sire Thorn Song To Stud At Harris Farms

US multiple Gr1-winning 8YO stallion Thorn Song (Unbridled's Song-Festal, by Storm Bird) will enter stud at Harris Farms in California for a fee of US$35,000 reported bloodhorse.com. Thorn Son (who was severely injured in the Gr1 Eddie Read Stakes at Del Mar in July 2009 & never raced again) "underwent stem cell therapy at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center after developing laminitis" & farm manager Dave McGlothlin noted: "We're going to do everything we can to make him feel comfortable & we're going to be careful how many mares we breed him to." Kentucky-bred Thorn Song (a US$200,000 purchase by Ahmed Zayat's Zayat Stables at the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2YOs-in-training) was a graded stakes-winner in 3 consecutive years: 2007 Gr3 River City Handicap at Churchill Downs; 2008 Gr1 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes at Keeneland & Gr2 Firecracker Handicap at Churchill; & 2009 Gr1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes at Hollywood Park. Overall he won or placed in 16 of 29 races & earned US$1,132,700.
