Alcopop Wins Kilmore Cup

Monday, 28th February 2011

Deceased Lindsay Park stallion & 1994 Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Jeune (Kalaglow-Youthful, by Green Dancer) added a black-type success when top-weighted 6YO gelding Alcopop (Jeune-Iota Of Luck, by Blevic) gained the judge's decision in a 3-way photo-finish to yesterday's $110,000 Listed Sportingbet Kilmore Cup (1600m) in Victoria. Alcopop (ridden by Ben Melham for trainer Jake Stephens) scored by a short-halfhead from 7YO gelding Its Prince (Principality-Reign Danzig, by Roi Danzig) with a further half-head to favoured 5YO mare Vivid Vixen (Ekraar-Pompeia, by Gaius). Alcopop took his record to 8 wins (also including 2009's Gr2 Herbert Power Stakes over 2400m at Caulfield, Listed JRA Cup over 2040m at Moonee Valley & Listed Balaklava Cup over 1600m) & 2 runners-up (including 2010's Gr1 Yalumba Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield) from 21 starts for $528,255 earnings.
