Exceed And Excel Adds UK Black-Type

Monday, 28th February 2011

In the UK, Darley stallion & former Australian champion 1st-season sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a black-type success (& 31st individual stakes-winner world-wide) when 4YO mare Waveband (Exceed And Excel-Licence To Thrill, by Wolfhound) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the £30,000 (A$46,000) Listed Cleves Stakes (6 furlongs on all-weather) for 4YOs & up at Lingfield Park. Waveband (ridden by Martin Dwyer for trainer David Barron) scored by a neck from Irish-bred 6YO mare Anne Of Kiev (Oasis Dream-Top Flight Queen, by Mark Of Esteem) with a further short-head to evergreen Irish-bred 8YO entire Duff (Spinning World-Shining Prospect, by Lycius). Waveband was a 75,000 guineas (A$120,000) yearling at the 2008 Tattersalls October Sale & later a 36,000 guineas (A$58,000) purchase at the 2010 Tattersalls Horses-In-Training Sale; overall she now has 4 wins & 11 placings from 26 starts for £132,052 (A$202,000) earnings.
