Keep The Peace Wins NZ Gr1 Haunui Farm Classic

Monday, 28th February 2011

In New Zealand, Cambridge Stud's Australian-bred stallion Keeper (Danehill-Nuwirah, by Pleasant Colony) added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO mare Keep The Peace (Keeper-Peace Of Mind, by Wild Rampage) scored by a long-neck in the NZ$200,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Haunui Farm Classic (1600m) at Otaki. Keep The Peace (ridden by James McDonald for trainer Shaune Ritchie) defeated favoured 6YO gelding Wall Street (Montjeu-Villa Wanda, by Grand Lodge) & 5YO mare Dasoudi (Elusive City-Culburra Beach, by Scenic). Keep The Peace (sold to a New York-based breeder for more than NZ$1 million last November, but remaining with trainer Ritchie until she completes her racing career) took her record to 6 wins (also including 2010's Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes over 1400m at Hastings, Gr1 New Zealand Oaks over 2400m at Trentham & Gr3 Desert Gold Stakes over 1600m at Trentham) & 7 placings (including last start's Gr1 Waikato Draught Sprint over 1400m at Te Rapa on February 12, plus 2010's Gr1 Kit Ormond Memorial Spring Classic over 2040m at Hastings, Gr1 Windsor Park Plate over 1600m at Hastings, Gr2 Matriarch Stakes over 2000m at Flemington & Gr3 Lowland Stakes over 2100m at Hastings, plus 2009's Gr1 NZ Bloodstock 1000 Guineas over 1600m at Riccarton Park) from 15 starts for $643,099 earnings.
