Amaryllis Wins NZ Darley Plate

Monday, 7th March 2011

Deceased former Vinery Stud shuttler & in recent years permanently Australian-based stallion Red Ransom (Roberto-Arabia, by Damascus) added a NZ group success (& 101st individual stakes-winner world-wide) when 5YO mare Amaryllis (Red Ransom-Lafleur, by Zabeel) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the NZ$100,000 Gr3 Darley Plate (1200m) at Ellerslie. Amaryllis (ridden by James McDonald for trainers Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie) defeated 5YO gelding Vincent Mangano (No Excuse Needed-Rationable, by Housebuster) & favoured 6YO gelding Vonusti (Ustinov-Reasonably, by Sound Reason). Amaryllis took her record to 8 wins & 4 placings (including 2010's Gr2 NZ Bloodstock Concorde Handicap over 1200m at Ellerslie) from 25 starts for NZ$141,763 earnings.
