Rebel Call Wins Perth Stakes

Monday, 7th March 2011

Darley stallion & former Australian champion 1st-season sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a juvenile black-type success (& 31st individual stakes-winner world-wide) when debutant colt Rebel Call (Exceed And Excel-Terrenora, by Encosta De Lago) gained the decision in a 3-way photo-finish to the $80,000 Listed Perth Stakes (1100m) for 2YO colts & geldings at Ascot. Rebel Call (ridden by Paul Harvey for trainer Joe Byrne) scored by a half-head from favoured & top-weighted gelding Benny's Halo (Benicio-Bekisharp, by Shovhog) with a further long-head to front-running fellow colt Cat Five (One Cool Cat-Bit Of The Bubbly, by A.P.Indy). Rebel Call (a $160,000 purchase consigned by Rothwell Park at the 2009 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast) earned $52,200 for his initial victory.
