Florida 2YOs Day-2: US$925k Flatter Colt

Friday, 18th March 2011

In the US auction ring, trainer Bob Baffert (acting for Kaleem Shah) out-bid John Moynihan (representing Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stable) to pay top price of US$925,000 for a colt by Claiborne Farm stallion Flatter (the 4th foal out of 10-year-old Quiet American mare Silence Please) during the closing session at the 2-day Ocala Breeders' Sales Company March Select Sale of 2YOs-In-Training in Florida. The colt (bred by New York-based Berkshire Stud consigned by Eisaman Equine as agent) is a half-brother to stakes-winner Sky Music & clocked 20.6sec for 2 furlongs during the pre-sale breeze-up session. He previously sold to Cobra Farm for just US$90,000 at last year's Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale & Baffert commented: "He has the pedigree to go long. He's fast & he looks very, very sound. When you're at the sales & one of them jumps out like that, you need to buy them. Those are the horses that get you to the big races. You've got to go with your gut feeling & our gut feeling was that he is a big-time horse. We loved him, but you had to love him at that price."
