VRC Stops Plan For Flemington Entertainment Centre
The Victoria Racing Club announced it would "not proceed with plans to build a Flemington Entertainment Centre on Epsom Road", based on "economic grounds, given industry uncertainty & potential cost of the project". Instead it will "now commence a process to seek a rezoning of the land for residential-mixed-use". While the Entertainment Centre will not go ahead in this location, the VRC "will continue to evaluate a number of options for the club's gaming business". The VRC noted "changes in the wagering industry over the past few years have resulted in increased uncertainty with respect to future industry funding & the VRC is constantly looking to additional income streams to ensure that Flemington remains the most prestigious racecourse in Australia". The residential-mixed-use development "would be on the freehold land owned by the VRC, next to the club's head office".
