Malpensa Wins Argentina Gr1 Gilberto Lerena

In South America, former Coolmore shuttler Orpen (Lure-Bonita Francita, by Devil's Bag) added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO mare Malpensa (Orpen-Marsella, by Southern Halo) blitzed her rivals by 8-lengths in Argentina's Gr1 Gran Premio Gilberto Lerena (2000m) for fillies & mares at Palermo in Buenos Aires. Malpensa (ridden by Adrian Giannetti for trainer Juan Udaondo) defeated 3YO filly Liz For Sale (Not For Sale-Lu Toss, by Egg Toss) & 5YO mare Ranquelia (Alpha Plus-Jaba, by Cipayo). Malpensa took her record to 4 wins (also including 2010's Gr1 Gran Premio Copa De Plata-Arquitecto Roberto Vasquez Mansilla over 2000m at San Isidro) & 9 placings (including March's Gr2 Clasico Arturo Bullrich over 2000m at Palermo, plus 2010's Gr1 Gran Premio Estrellas Distaff over 2000m at Palermo, Gr1 Gran Premio Criadores over 2000m at Palermo, Gr1 Gran Premio Gilberto Lerena over 2000m at Palermo, Gr2 Clasico Los Haras over 2000m at San Isidro & Gr3 Apertura-Copa Diario La Nacion over 2000m at Palermo, as well as 2009's Gr1 Gran Premio De Potrancas over 1600m at San Isidro, Gr1 Gran Premio Eliseo Ramirez over 1400m at San Isidro & Gr1 Gran Premio Saturnino Unzue over 1200m at Palermo) from 16 starts.
