Americain Begins 2nd Melb Cup Campaign At Saint-Cloud

Tuesday, 5th April 2011

In France, 6YO entire Americain (Dynaformer-America, by Arazi) “is due to resume racing” in the Listed Prix Right Royal (3100m) at Saint-Cloud on Friday “as part of a long campaign aimed at winning back-to-back Melbourne Cups” reported racingpost.com. Americain’s Australian owner Gerry Ryan confirmed: “Normally (in Australia) they'd step out (1st-up) in a 1400m or 1600m race & we're going to find it a little bit strange, but that's how they train over there (in France). We've got a little programme worked out for him, built around coming back to Australia (to defend his Melbourne Cup). With horses that age & that size, they keep ticking them over with long walks & letting them stride through the Chantilly forest. He may be heading to England for a Gr1 at (Royal) Ascot, that's one choice; and there's a Gr1 in France. We've got to make sure the weight is not too great, so he can come back (for the Melbourne Cup). He spelled well & looks very well. Kevin (co-owner Kevin Bamford) was over there 2 weeks ago & had a great report. He came back very excited.” Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Gerald Mosse “will again ride American when he returns to racing”.
