Barinka Wins NZ Gr1 Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes

In New Zealand, Paxton Park sire Shinko King (Fairy King-Rose Of Jericho, by Alleged) added a Gr1 triumph when 6YO mare Barinka (Shinko King-Hay Barlu, by Hey Baba Riba) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the NZ$200,000 Gr1 Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (1600m) for fillies & mares at Te Aroha. Barinka (ridden by Hayden Tinsley for trainer Karen Zimmerman) scored by a head from 3YO filly Smoulder (Traditionally-Flying Firebird, by Stravinsky) with a further neck to fellow 3YO filly Fleur de Lune (Stravinsky-Kapsjoy, by Kaapstad). Barinka now has 8 wins (also including March's Listed Westbury Classic over 1400m at Ellerslie, plus 2010's Listed Anniversary Handicap over 1600m at Trentham & 2009's Listed Valachi Downs Canterbury Breeders Stakes over 1400m at Riccarton Park) & 12 placings (including 2010's Listed Eye Liner Stakes over 1350m at Ipswich & Listed Rotorua Stakes over 1400m at Arawa Park, plus 2009's Listed Ag And Sprint Handicap over 1400m at Te Rapa & Listed Rotorua Stakes over 1400m at Te Aroha, as well as 2008's Gr3 Cuddle Stakes over 1600m at Trentham) from 34 starts for NZ$372,418 earnings.
