No Match Race For Black Caviar & More Joyous
The Australian Turf Club announced "the tantalising prospect of the world's best race horse Black Caviar racing Sydney's champion mare More Joyous in the Gr1 All Aged Stakes will unfortunately not eventuate". While there was "a strong willingness from the connections of More Joyous to match themselves against Black Caviar, the connections of the superstar have resolved that Black Caviar would benefit from a short break from racing before embarking on her original program, culminating in the Gr1 Doomben 10,000 on 28 May". ATC chief executive Darren Pearce commented: "What's in the best interests of this once-in-a-lifetime galloper is paramount in everyone's minds & if connections feel it best for her to have a short freshen up away from the race track, then we must respect that. Her performance at Royal Randwick in (last Saturday's) Gr1 Darley T.J.Smith Stakes was awe-inspiring & will long live in the hearts & minds of all racing fans." Pearce also noted: "Given the amazing interest there is in these 2 champions meeting, the real challenge for the ATC will be to create a race in the Spring or even the following Autumn where the 2 stars can compete. Perhaps an invitational could be considered & we could try & obtain interest from the very best sprinters from all around Australasia. This will be high on our agenda."
