UK 2YOs Day-1: $504 Azamour Colt

Thursday, 14th April 2011

In the UK overnight, Sir Robert Ogden paid top price of 315,000 guineas (A$504,000) for a colt by The Aga Khan's Gilltown Stud-based 4-time Gr1-winner Azamour (out of Polar Falcon mare Khayrat) during the opening session at the Tattersalls Craven 2YO Breeze-Up Sale. The colt (consigned by Willie Browne's Mocklershill in Ireland) represented a massive pin-hooking triumph, having previously sold as a yearling for just €58,000 (A$80,000). Ogden's racing manager Barry Simpson commented: "We liked this horse an awful lot. We saw the horse in Ireland & liked him then & his breeze yesterday confirmed our belief. We have not yet decided upon a trainer. Sir Robert takes a very active role when buying his horses & it is always his decision. He likes looking at the horses & we started with a short list of 30, which we whittled down to 7 or 8."
