Hawk Island Wins JRA Plate

Multiple Gr1-winning former Coolmore shuttler Hawk Wing (Woodman-La Lorgnette, by Val De L'Orne) added a black-type success when favoured & top-weighted 6YO gelding Hawk Island (Hawk Wing-Crimphill, by Sadler's Wells) scored a half-length victory in the $100,000 Listed Japan Racing Association Plate (2000m) at Randwick. Hawk Island (ridden by Glyn Schofield for trainer Chris Waller) defeated 4YO mare Galizani (Galileo-Zahani, by Zabeel) & 5YO mare Vintedge (Flying Spur-Alternative Edge, by Rory's Jester). Hawk Island was a 9,000 guineas (A$14,400) purchase at the 2008 UK Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale; overall he now has 10 wins (also including February's Listed Parramatta Cup over 2000m at Rosehill, plus 2010's Listed Wyong Gold Cup over 2100m) & 8 placings (including March's Gr1 Ranvet Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill) from 34 starts for $663,397 earnings.
