Lucha Libre Wins South Pacific Classic

Monday, 18th April 2011

NZ Waikato Stud's Australian-bred stallion Pins (Snippets-No Finer, by Karou Star) added a black-type success when unbeaten daughter Lucha Libre (Pins-Libre, by Grosvenor) scored by a short-halfhead over her male rivals (& then survived a protest by the runner-up) in the $100,000 Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) for 3YOs at Randwick. Lucha Libre (riden by Craig Williams for trainer Bart Cummings) defeated the geldings Levi's Choice (Galileo-Nina Haraka, by Fraar) & Kirinata (Stratum-Salsify, by Grand Lodge). Lucha Libre (a NZ$45,000 yearling consigned by Ardsley Stud at the 2009 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 2 wins from 2 starts for $70,400 earnings.
