Monday, 18th April 2011

Former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 Kentucky Derby-winner Thunder Gulch (Gulch-Line Of Thunder, by Storm Bird) added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO daughter Shotgun Gulch (Thunder Gulch-Rosieville, by Boston Harbor) motored home from last-in-running to snatch victory by a head in the US$300,000 Gr1 Vinery Madison Stakes (7 furlongs on all-weather) for mares 4YO & up at Keeneland in Kentucky. Shotgun Gulch (ridden by Garrett Gomez for owner-breeder-trainer C.R.Trout) defeated favoured fellow 4YO mare Amen Hallelujah (Montbrook-Sara's Success, by Concorde's Tune) & front-running 5YO mare Dr Zic (Milwaukee Brew-Royal Corona, by Holy Bull) who won this race last year. Oklahoma-bred Shotgun Gulch took her record to 7 wins (including both 2010's Listed Dixie Belle Stakes over 6 furlongs at Oaklawn Park & Listed Oklahoma Classics Filly Sprint Stakes over 6 furlongs at Remington Park, plus both 2009's Listed Gaylord Memorial Stakes over 6.5 furlongs at Remington Park & Listed Oklahoma Classics Lassie Stakes over 6 furlongs at Remington Park)& 5 placings (including 2010's Gr1 La Brea Stakes over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita, Listed Treasure Chest Stakes over 8 furlongs at Delta Downs & Listed Cinemine Stakes over 7 furlongs at Lone Star Park) from 17 starts for US$478,146 earnings.
