South Africa Yearlings: Final Average Down 25%

The 2011 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale ended with 472 lots sold for R115.31 million (A$16.47m) which was down 28.5% from last year's R161.305 million (A$23.04m). The average of R244,301 (A$35,000) was down 25% & the clearance rate was 87.9%. South African TBA chief executive Jan Naude commented: "These prices are a realistic reflection of the economy. There was plenty of good money for the top horses, but the middle market struggled."
