Star Darley 3YO Colt Retrieve Heading To Europe

Tuesday, 19th April 2011

Saturday's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick in Sydney "could be the final Australian start" for star Darley-owned 3YO colt Retrieve (Rahy-Hold To Ransom, by Red Ransom) "before he begins a northern hemisphere career" reported racenet.com.au. Retrieve "will take on the older horses before a shift to Sheik Mohammed's Godolphin operation to compete in the famous royal blue silks". Darley racing manager Trevor Lobb confirmed Retrieve's Gr1-placings in the Gr1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick, Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) at Rosehil & Gr1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington "had brought Retrieve to the attention of Godolphin's racing manager Simon Crisford". Lobb noted: "We in Australia have the chance to have these horses but ultimately, the main ones go to Godolphin. He will run next Saturday in the Queen Elizabeth & we'll think about it after that." Lobb said Retrieve "could leave Australia soon after Saturday's race & compete over the northern summer while still in racing condition" adding: "Retrieve could go to England & race at the back end of the European season & then go back to Dubai for the World Cup series." However Lobb also emphasised Retrieve "could be back in Australia later in his career because of Sheik Mohammed's burning desire to win the Gr1 Melbourne Cup".
