Tuesday, 19th April 2011

US 2000 Broodmare-Of-The-Year Primal Force (Blushing Groom-Prime Prospect, by Mr Prospector) who was the foundation mare for Frank Stronachs's Adena Springs "died as a result of complications during foaling at the Kentucky farm" aged 24, reported bloodhorse.com. Her foal (a full-sister to Gr1-winning sire Macho Uno) "survived & is doing well". Primal Force was the dam of Gr1 Breeders' Cup winners Awesome Again & Macho Uno & is "1 of only 3 broodmares to produce multiple Breeders' Cup champions". On the track, Primal Force recorded 4 wins from 8 starts & was purchased by Stronach for US$95,000 as a broodmare prospect from the Three Chimneys consignment to the 1992 Keeneland January Sale. Her 2nd foal Awesome Again (1998 Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic winner & US$4.3 million-earner) has sired 4 Breeders' Cup winners to date. Primal Force was represented by her 2nd Breeders' Cup winner when Macho Uno won the Gr1 Juvenile & was voted Champion 2YO Male. Both Awesome Again & Macho Uno now stand at Adena Springs.
