Williams Heads To Japan For 2-Months

Wednesday, 20th April 2011

Jockey Craig Williams "hopes a 2-month stint riding in Japan will provide him with a potential Melbourne Cup mount" reported The Herald-Sun. Williams will ride for prominent owner Katsumi Yoshida (who provided the 2006 Melbourne Cup quinella with Delta Blues & Pop Rock). Last year Williams won the Gr1 Tenno Sho with Jaguar Mail "who was set for the Melbourne Cup but withdrawn because of quarantine regulations". He begins his latest Japanese stint on April 30 & will ride Tosen Reve (younger brother to 5-time Gr1-winner Buena Vista) in the Gr2 Japan Derby Trial at Tokyo & Jamil in the Gr1 Tenno Sho (3200m) at Kyoto the next day. Williams commented: "It's tough with the language barrier, but the racing is great & hopefully I can find a horse going towards the Melbourne Cup."
