Wednesday, 27th April 2011

Former Coolmore shuttler & champion 2YO Johannesburg (Hennessy-Myth, by Ogygian) added a black-type success when top-weighted 5YO gelding Border Rebel (Johannesburg-Frontier, by Flying Spur) scored a 1.75-lengths victory in the $80,000 Listed Hinkler Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm to take this race for the 2nd successive year. Front-running Border Rebel (ridden by Tim Bell for trainer Sue Grills) defeated 4YO geldings Listen Son (Big Jesse-Backstage Star, by Regal Classic) & Captain Clayton (Danbird-Princess By Night, by Twenty Four Karat). Border Rebel (a $26,000 yearling consigned by Jonel Park Thoroughbreds at the 2007 Magic Millions National Sale) now has 13 wins (also including 2010's Listed Takeover Target Stakes over 1200m at Gosford & Listed Hinkler Handicap over 1200m at Eagle Farm) & 4 placings (including January's Listed Carrington Stakes over 1100m at Randwick & 2010's Gr2 QTC Cup over 1300m at Eagle Farm) from 21 starts for $532,650 earnings.
