Paddy O'Reilly Wins Easter Cup

Waikato Stud stallion & former champion NZ sire O'Reilly (Last Tycoon-Courtza, by Pompeii Court) added a group success (& 48th individual stakes-winner) when 5YO gelding Paddy O'Reilly (O'Reilly-Star Of Amarissa, by Assert) made it 2 successive wins with a short-neck victory in the $125,000 Gr3 Easter Cup (2000m) at Caulfield in Melbourne. Paddy O'Reilly (ridden by Jason Maskiell for trainer Robert Smerdon) defeated 6YO gelding Fanjura (Marju-Accelerating, by Lear Fan) & 4YO gelding Launay (Lonhro-Eve In Seychelles, by Palace Music). Paddy O'Reilly (passed-in for NZ$180,000 at the 2007 NZB Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka) took his record to 4 wins (also including last start's Albury Cup over 2000m on March 25) & 6 placings (including 2008's Gr3 Norman Robinson Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield) from 19 starts for $275,687 earnings.
