Caulfield "Master Plan" Before Council Tonight

Thursday, 28th April 2011

The fate of Melbourne Racing Club's multi-million-dollar master plan for Caulfield racecourse "will be decided by Glen Eira City Council on Thursday night," reported The Herald-Sun. MRC chairman Mike Symons said the plan (which began in January 2007) "had cost the club between $6 million & $7 million on feasibility analysis, research, planning concepts & designs, consultants & an exhaustive public consultation process". Symons noted the Caulfield Precinct would include: a residential precinct of predominantly permanent accommodation; a mixed use precinct incorporating retail, leisure commercial & residential accommodation; a Smith Street precinct incorporating commercial, service retail & residential accommodation. Glen Eira City Council "can approve, amend or abandon the plan at the meeting" & Symons confirmed: "It is the critical date for our master plan. If council rejects, then our only remaining avenue is for the Planning Minister Matthew Guy to call in the project."
