Montjeu Adds UK Gr3

Thursday, 28th April 2011

In the UK overnight, dual-Derby winning Coolmore sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (out of Kendor mare Dibenoise) added a group success when French-bred 6YO gelding Askar Tau (Montjeu-Autriche, by Acatenango) scored a 2.5-lengths victory in the £60,000 (A$93,000) Gr3 Sagaro Stakes (2 miles) for 4YOs & up at Ascot. Askar Tau (ridden by George Baker for trainer Marcus Tregoning) defeated front-running 5YO gelding Akmal (Selkirk-Ayun, by Swain) & 5YO entire Free Agent (Dr Fong-Film Script, by Unfuwain). Askar Tau was a 145,000 guineas (A$232,000) yearling at the 2006 UK Tattersalls October Sale. Overall he now has 8 wins (including both 2009's Gr2 Doncaster Cup over 18 furlongs at Doncaster & Gr2 Lonsdale Stakes over 16.5 furlongs at York) & 2 placings (including last start's Listed Further Flight Stakes over 14 furlongs at Nottingham on April 6) from 20 starts.
