Shrapnel Inoculated For Possible Royal Ascot Trip

Thursday, 28th April 2011

Victorian trainer Mark Kavanagh confirmed Gr2-winning & Gr1-placed 3YO colt Shrapnel (Charge Forward-Fragmentation, by Snippets) "will be bound for Royal Ascot if he wins next month's Gr1 Goodwood Handicap" reported The Herald-Sun. Kavanagh noted Shrapnel (part-owned by John Messara's Arrowfield Stud) "had been inoculated for the trip, but said the horse had to perform at its peak to win the Gr1". Shrapnel (a $450,000 yearling consigned by Highgrove Stud at the 2009 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) won last month's Gr2 Yallambee Classic (1200m) at Morphettville & overall boasts 3 wins (also including 2010's Gr3 Marsh Breeders' Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville) & 2 placings (including 2010's Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes over 1200m at Flemington & Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes over 1000m at Morphettville) from 7 starts for $288,435 earnings.
