Monday, 2nd May 2011

Former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a South African group success when Australian-bred daughter Igugu (Galileo-Zarinia, by Intikhab) slaughtered her rivals by 5.75-lengths in the R750,000 (A$107,000) Gr2 South African Oaks (2450m) for 3YO fillies at Turffonetin to become the 1st filly in SA history to win all 3 legs of the Triple Tiara. Igugu (ridden by Anthony Delpech for trainer Mike De Kock) defeated Princess Of Light (Var-Star Of Arcole, by Foveros) with a further 6.5-lengths back to Ilha Grande (Tiger Ridge-Ilha Da Vitoria, by Candy Stripes). At her previous start Igugu (a $65,000 yearling at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale) similarly thrashed her rivals by 10.25-lengths in March's Gr1 SA Fillies Classic (1800m) at Turffontein; overall she now boasts 6 wins (also including February's Gr2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas over 1600m at Turffontein & 2010's Gr3 Johannesburg Spring Challenge over 1450m at Turffontein) & 2 runners-up (including 2010's Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas over 1600m at Kenilworth) from 8 starts for R2,049,375 (A$293,000) earnings.
