Monday, 2nd May 2011

In the UK, former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Gr1 triumph when Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farm home-bred unbeaten colt Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill) who was last season's European Champion 2YO Male continued his rise to stardom by annihilating his rivals with a front-running 6-lengths victory in the £350,000 (A$543,000) Gr1 2000 Guineas (8 furlongs) for 3YOs at Newmarket. Hot favourite Frankel (ridden by Tom Queally for trainer Henry Cecil) defeated fellow colts Dubawi Gold (Dubawi-Savannah Belle, by Green Desert) & French-bred Native Khan (Azamour-Viva Maria, by Kendor). Frankel now has 6 wins (also including April's Gr3 Greenham Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury, plus 2010's Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket & Gr2 Royal Lodge Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot) from 6 starts for £493,553 (A$765,000) earnings.
