Monday, 2nd May 2011

Also in New Zealand, Waikato Stud stallion & former champion NZ sire O'Reilly (Last Tycoon-Courtza, by Pompeii Court) added a group success (& 49th individual stakes-winner) when gelded son Hammer Down (O'Reilly-Our Prized Rose, by Prized) scored a 0.75-length victory in the NZ$70,000 Gr3 Windsor Park Stud Breeders' Stakes (1200m) for 3YOs at Te Rapa. Hammer Down (ridden by Samantha Spratt for trainer Stephen McKee) defeated fellow gelding Sweet Suitor (Bachelor Duke-Holy Honey, by Rory's Jester) & the filly Kiwi Lady (Ruby's Jester-Luscious Lady, by Al Akbar). Hammer Down (a NZ$60,000 yearling consigned by Esker Lodge at the 2009 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale at Karaka) took his record to 3 wins & 5 placings (including March's Listed Starcraft At Arrowfield Stud Mr Tiz Trophy over 1200m at Ellerslie) from 12 starts for NZ$71,175 earnings.
