Vet Examination For Melb Cup Winner Americain

Monday, 2nd May 2011

Meanwhile Melbourne Cup winner Americain's "immediate future will be determined by the results of an exhaustive veterinary examination after his worst performance in more than a year" reported The Herald-Sun. Australian part-owner Gerry Ryan confirmed blood tests "would tell if it was worth pursuing an assault on next month's Royal Ascot carnival" in the UK. Americain (starting even money favourite) finished 6th (3.25-lengths behind winner Dunaden) in France's Gr3 Prix Barbeville (3100m) at Longchamp at his 2nd run this preparation. Ryan summed up: "He just didn't have the turn of foot; he wasn't himself. We'll wait & see what the vet & trainer has to say & the horse cools down. He was heading to Ascot, but you would not take him there on that run. There was no excuse from the track so you have to look at the horse."
