Montjeu Adds Irish Gr2

Monday, 9th May 2011

In Ireland overnight, dual-Derby winning stallion & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a group success when French-bred colt Recital (Montjeu-Dibenoise, by Kendor) scored a 1.5-lengths victory in the €95,000 (A$132,000) Gr2 Derby Trial Stakes (10 furlongs) for 3YOs at Leopardstown. Favourite Recital (ridden by Kieren Fallon for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated front-running fellow colts Memphis Tennessee (Hurricane Run-Hit The Sky, by Cozzene) & Regent Street (Galileo-Hanami, by Hernando). Recital was a €750,000 (A$1.043m) yearling at France's 2009 Arqana August Sale. He now has 3 wins (also including 2010's French Gr1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud over 2000m at Saint-Cloud) & a placing (in April's Irish Gr3 Ballysax Stakes over 10 furlongs at Leopardstown) from 4 starts for €216,595 (A$301,000) earnings.
