Montjeu Adds UK Gr3

Monday, 9th May 2011

Also in the UK, dual-Derby winning stallion & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a group success when Irish-bred 4YO entire St Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu-Leaping Water, by Sure Blade) blitzed his rivals by 9-lengths in the £65,000 (A$101,000) Gr3 Ormonde Stakes (13.5 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Chester. St Nicholas Abbey (ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated Irish-bred 6YO entire Allied Powers (Invincible Spirit-Always Friendly, by High Line) & fellow 4YO entire Harris Tweed (Hernando-Frog, by Akarad). St Nicholas Abbey was a 200,000 guineas (A$320,000) yearling at the 2008 UK Tattersalls October Sale & ended his unbeaten juvenile season as 2009's European Champion 2YO Male at the Cartier Awards. Overall he now has 4 wins (also including 2009's UK Gr1 Racing Post Trophy over 8 furlongs at Doncaster & Irish Gr2 Beresford Stakes over 8 furlongs at The Curragh) & a placing (in April's Irish Listed Alleged Stakes over 10 furlongs at The Curragh) from 6 starts for £243,257 (A$377,000) earnings.
