Plum Pretty Wins US Gr1 Kentucky Oaks

Monday, 9th May 2011

Multiple Gr1-winning shuttler Medaglia D'Oro (El Prado-Cappucino Bay, by Bailjumper) added a US Gr1 triumph (& 6th individual Gr1-winner) when daughter Plum Pretty (Medaglia D'Oro-Liszy, by A.P.Indy) scored by a neck in the US$1 million Gr1 Kentucky Oaks (9 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at Churchill Downs, a day before the Derby & in front of 110,122 fans (3rd-highest attendance in Kentucky Oaks history). Peachtree Stable's Plum Pretty (ridden by Martin Garcia for trainer Bob Baffert) defeated fast-finishing St John's River (Include-Adventurous Di, by Private Account) & Zazu (Tapit-Rhumb Line, by Mr Greeley). At her previous start, Plum Pretty (a US$130,000 2YO at the 2010 Ocala Breeders March Sale) had annihilated her rivals by an extraordinary 25-lengths in the Listed Sunland Park Oaks (8.5 furlongs) in New Mexico; overall she now boasts 3 wins & 2 placings (in February's Gr1 Las Virgenes Stakes over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita & January's Gr2 Santa Ynez Stakes over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita) from 5 starts for $761,200 earnings.
